Our Approach to Drone Surveys

Initial Engagement

Client Consultation

  • We will discuss your specific requirements and objectives for the drone survey.

  • Our team will review any existing documentation and plans related to your property.

Survey Planning

Site Assessment & Initial Desktop Study

  • We review the site and undertake a number of desktop studies to establish whether the location is impacted by any flight-restriction zones or local restrictions.

  • We will assess the site to determine the safest and best approach for the drone survey.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Drones cannot be used everywhere and certainly not without pre-planning checks, formal permission and notifications. Don't be fooled by anyone that says they can just 'pop to site and use a drone'.

Regulatory Compliance

Research the Area

  • We gather information about the survey location and its surroundings.

  • Our experienced Drone Pilots use of maps, satellite imagery, and local knowledge to identify potential obstacles and restricted areas.

Check CAA Maps and Tools

  • Our Surveyors use the NATS (National Air Traffic Services) Drone Assist services to check for airspace restrictions, No-Fly Zones, and other relevant information.

  • We review real-time data on airspace restrictions, including controlled airspace, airports, heliports, and other areas with specific restrictions.

DroneSafe Coverage

  • We analyse CAA DroneSafe data for comprehensive guidance on drone operations and regulations specific to the site location and nearby limitations or caution zones. This includes maps and tools to identify restricted areas and ensure compliance.

Permissions

Local Council and Landowner Permissions

  • We assist the Client in obtaining permission from local authorities and landowners if the survey area includes public or private land.  Formal and explicit permission must be obtained prior to any drone flight taking place.

  • We ensure compliance with any local regulations and restrictions that may apply to the drone operations.

Conduct Risk Assessment

Evaluation of Risks and Mitigation Planning

  • Our Surveyors assess potential risks associated with the survey location, including proximity to populated areas, obstacles, and weather conditions.

  • We implement mitigation measures where possible to address identified risks, such as adjusting the flight path, altitude, or timing.

Prepare a Flight Plan

Detailed Flight Plans

  • Our Drone Pilots prepare a detailed flight plan outlining the survey area, flight path, altitude, and duration.

  • They include contingency plans for dealing with emergencies or unexpected changes.

On-Site Checks (Pre-Flight)

Visual Inspection (to maintain 'line-of-sight' at all times)

  • The Done Pilot conducts a visual inspection of the survey area upon arrival to confirm there are no unexpected obstacles or changes.

Final Airspace and Weather Condition Check

  • Our experienced  Surveyor performs a final check of airspace restrictions to ensure no new restrictions have been issued.
